Can Colours Make A Difference In Staging Your Property For Sale?

Posted by Karl Smith in Agency Blog

When we work with our clients, we try to create the atmosphere which puts them at ease, so that they can share with us that which we need to help them with their real estate goals. We often do this by relating to our clients, our personality traits and our experiences; part of this includes our wardrobe and even our colour choices.

It’s been long accepted that certain colours can create a response in people. We use this in our clothes, but what about our homes? Don’t we consider our feelings about colour when we decorate? If you are ready to sell your home, considering the colour scheme in your home can make a difference in the reaction of potential buyers.

We all know that colours affect our moods. Most of us have read about the use of colours in our homes or offices to enhance our environment, it makes sense that when you are staging your home for sale that you use these techniques. While no one is suggesting that you completely redecorate, accenting with the right colours can be a smart marketing tool.

Red
Red is a power colour! It demands attention and is the most common colour used in marketing. In real estate, too much can be a detriment….we do want them to see the property, so perhaps use as an accent colour. Bright flowers in the front yard can draw a buyer’s eye and create excitement about seeing the inside.

Blue
Blue is the best colour to create a sense of trust. Soft blue accent pillows in the living room could immediately give the sense of security and assurance in the home.

Yellow
Yellow is a power colour also and it is often used to show energy. Yellow is best used in a kitchen where it might indicate a fresh, bright morning at the breakfast bar.

Green
Green is a soothing colour which tends to put people at ease. It’s often used in decorating to create a relaxing and healthy environment. Bedrooms and bathrooms are often good options for green. Various tones from sage to forest green are used in high priced spas to reduce the stress of their clients and invite lounging.

Colours can be a wonderful tool in staging your home for sale. Working with your real estate agent, stager and photographer careful use of colour can add emotion to various parts of your home. Just as important is removing the colours from the wrong places.
Buyers buy with emotions.

Help them not only see your home, but feel themselves living there as well. Coluor accents are a great way to do this.
