Breaking News: The Eugene Street Bellbird Park proposed 333-lot subdivision development application has been formally refused by Ipswich City Council this afternoon.

As this is a straight out refusal, there is no scope for the applicant to request a negotiated decision with Council.

However, the applicant has the right of appeal to the Planning & Environment Court. If that happens, Council will vigorously defend its decision before the Court.

I wish to thank all residents who contacted me regarding this matter.

For your information, this is a statement I have made to the Queensland Times this afternoon:

Division 2 Councillor Paul Tully said the determination to refuse the application was the “only decision which could be made”.

“Community always comes first when widespread legitimate concerns are raised about the local environment, the amenity of the area and the undesirability of jamming 333 more homes into a tiny precinct.”

Cr Tully reiterated his earlier comment that it was “the worst town planning application” he had ever seen in 39 years.

“The Singapore-based developer should donate the land to the people of Bellbird Park and Ipswich in perpetuity as an environmental park,” Cr Tully said.
